Nick and Rebecca, a quote from Helge in his book, Ten Years on Two Wheels," Going around the world on two wheels has been, like every sort of endeavour in life, a school, where wisdom is picked up along the way- in my case along the road. I had many experiences born of trial and error. The sheer volume of impressions I experienced was enourmous. It took some time to absorb it all and a few years have now passed. I had indeed realised my childhood dream when I returned from Africa. Later I came up with new dreams and strove to realise them as well one by one. Some I did; others remain dreams. Some of those I hope- believe- will come true. Others will always be dreams...and who would want to run out of dreams?"
Safe journeys.

Dear Nick and Rebecca,
Loved reading your last entry and it reminded me fondly of my time in the Raj, when I rode across on horse back. It is a truely amazing place. Winter appears to be be drawing to a close here, the daffodils are out ready for the most important day of the year St Davids Day (1st March 2008), I hope you have a chance to chew on a leek or drink some mead! Nick sorry missed your birthday, so happy valentines day to you both instead. yours ever Tom

Great news about ICSC - Nick we will be able to bore for britain with TESEX war stories, I understand the patch life is great fun as well.
I know you will love York, Nick you will be closer to home and Rebecca, bizarrely, it will take no more time to get to London omn train than from Warminster!

This afternoon I have come across this website which confirms it. I am envious beyond belief, I wish you all the very best for your travels and only wish I had the time/balls to do a similar expedition. All the best for the future & well done on the website.

Belated Happy new Year to you both and birthday to you Nick. Your latest photos are amazing - am very envious of the sunshine - January is not a good month in the U.K. Had a fantastic Christmas at Hill Farm it was good all being there together and everyone was great at mucking in and helping. It was also great to be able to celebrate Georgia's birthday with Hamish and Michelle. They are great parents and Georgia is a credit to them both - she is a lovely little girl. Mum is coming up to Edinburgh on Monday for a couple of days so will be nice to catch up. Continue to enjoy your adventure and see you soon.

Sounds like you had a good new year. Regarding your message. I will get in touch regarding my parents address and contact details in Phnom Penh, I am sure they will be glad to see you if you do end up there after the trip. They have taken on a orphanage which Mom runs and organises day to day including funding (mostly Dad I think) but a bit of promo on you web site would be welcome I am sure. Think they still have a condo in Bangkok which may also be available. I will check.
Happy New year.

Hi Nick and Rebecca,
Sorry we have not left many messages, but whilst internet access may have reached deepest Bhutan, it has only just arrived at Sepulchre lane, Kendal.
Probabaly just as well we have'nt seen to much of your web site as we are only jelous. I have also been of work for the last few months, but have'nt got much further than the swing park! However my wrist seems to be fixing well though mobility is limited. Geogia is growing up fast and is now a 'talker'. Hope the rest of the trip goes well and look forward to seeing you on return. Happy New Year guys! Looks amazing - the familiar sights of Jaipur are bringing back some fond memories of one of my favourite places in the world. I hadn't realised you were going back to that area of India or would have passed on a couple of contacts - I'd be glad to do so if you are headed back to Jaipur again (best by text as we are not set up with email at home yet.) If you are going to Udaipur I would hugely recommend staying at the Jagat Nivas - a charming little haveli by the side of the lake, with a superb view of the palace in the middle, and pretty reasonable too. Even if you don't stay there it is worth dropping in for a drink - the owner is a real character known as Raja, and has plenty of stories of local legend to tell - the kind you won't find in the guide books! Best wishes, Graeme

Nick and Rebecca - best wishes from us all for a super Christmas. Not sure where you are on that date but trust you will be in a country that can at least offer if not sell you some alcohol. India and Scarlett will be most envious if you are in sight of snow on the 25th, as down here in sunny Somerset the anticipated absence of it will be the only major failing in surpassing the festive expectations of a 2 and 3 year old! Perhaps we'll head to the Lake District one winter. So best wishes to you both for a happy and healthy time into 2008 and the conclusion of your trip. Love from us all. The Ellison's.

Rebs and Nick, Wow! Most envious of your epic journey. Our own trip back across the States and Atlantic now sounds very tame! We managed to stretch out 3,000 miles to 8,000 as we snaked across North America via the Canadian Rockies, ranching in Montana, National Parks down the Rockies, heading east from the Mojave Desert and across the Southern States before turning north to New England in the Fall, then Boston and New York! We even managed to switch our return flights for passage home onboard QM2 for our transatlantic crossing! Now getting used to chilly Edinburgh winds, but made up for on bright sunny winter days! Glad to hear that you've been enjoying some 5 star luxury and have survived the more hairy moments of your trip.
It's been wonderful to continue reading about your thrilling adventure and I feel like I've been learning about some of the cultures and countries you've travelled through from the detailed blog you've been updating. It must be incredible to journey through the foothills of Nepal and I've heard that the views around Annapurna are spectaular, so we wish you a safe and wonderful trek.
It's December now and we're thinking about you lots in the run up to Christmas.
Continue to look after yourselves and enjoy every moment.

Guys, so much to catch up on... Have read and looked on with varying degrees of envy and admiration. It really is an amazing journey which you are both undertaking. I am going to be in Goa between the 8th and the 18th of November. I understand that in the late thirteenth century there were substantial roadworks on the silk route and all traffic was diverted via Goa, so if you fancy making a small diversion it would be great to catch up with you both. If not then it would be great to hear, first hand, about all your adventures when you return to England. Best of luck for the rest of your journey.

It looks fabulous, and the blog is a great idea. Glad to see so many of my pictures from the India trip on this site too, - oh the good old days, I miss them so.
I am planning a trip up the length of the Americas for next year but its early days and whether it happens or not, it will help me through the rest of my time here...
All the best see you when you get back

Nick and Rebecca,
I'm glad to see that you've had a safe and pleasant journey to India with the recent events in Pakistan. After our breakfast in Karimabad, I headed to Gilgit on the KKH and also enjoyed the beautiful views. I flew from Gilgit to Islamabad, and then returned to San Francisco after transiting through Dubai and staying in Shanghai for a few days.
All the best for a wonderful journey through India and Tibet.

Hello englanders,
how I promised, I send you some info how I got to Tibet from Jetzeng {Karghilik}. In Jetzeng I took a bus {goes quite frequently} to Ali for 700Y {local people pay 350Y :-{}. In Ali I went to PSB office, I paid a fine 300Y for illegal coming from Jetzeng and got permission for Ali prefecture for 50Y. Then another permission for 50Y is needed in Shigatse prefecture. Now I am here. If I decide to go to another prefecture like Lhasa or more to east I need to have other permissions. The question is whether to apply for these permission if it is rarely controlled or not. It is up to each.
Then I also met some germans who came from Pakystan, had very nice time there, so it should not be problem spend some time there.
Have a nice journey.

Guessing you must be somewhere near Pakistan right now - probably in a very cold North West frontier? Watched Ewan Macgregor's efforts on TV last night to set off on a similar journey - you would be totally disgusted by the amount of people they had helping them and the amount of stuff they were taking! Having said that I can now see the attraction of riding vast distances on a motorbike! Hope you are having fun, we are missing you lots over here.

Nick & Rebecca - greetings from Tajikistan - I was the guy at dinner over at Trevor's place in Dushanbe. Nice talking to you both that evening. Your pics are great - I recognize many of the places, especially where you wrecked by the water source next to the Soviet mosaic on the Wakhan...ouch. Was probably better than that Border Guard Dog though - that had to really suck. I saw the Pamir map laying on the tapchan in Khalaikhum - hope it was of use. Good luck in the World Cup and the rest of the journey - cheers. Regards, LTC Dan Green, US Defense Attache

Predictably and to your great credit I have spent the last hour and more breezing around your awesome site when I should be doing some work - no change there. Delighted that all's good and you certainly seem to be having a blast.
