About Us
I was brought up on a farm in the Lake District and began my motorcycling on board a Yamaha TY 80cc trials bike. Initially a reluctant pillion, Rebecca's early exposure to motorcycles was limited to Sunday rides on her father's bike.
After I left school in 1994 I travelled the length of Vietnam on a Russian Minsk, which must compete with the Royal Enfield for the most unreliable motorcycle in the world. In India two friends and I rode our battered 350cc Royal Enfield Bullets over the Himalayas into Ladakh, wearing a fine array of fur coats.
In 1996, during my time at agricultural college I spent six months cattle ranching on the plains of southern Venezuela. Much of the mustering work on the 700,000 acre ranch was spent on board an Enduro bike, when not riding horses.
After joining the army in 1999, I hatched a plan to race from New Delhi to London on 500cc Royal Enfield Bullets and in five weeks, six novice overland motorcyclists took this idea from the planning table to Delhi.
My regiment deployed to Kuwait in 2003 in preparation for the invasion of Iraq. Due to lack of tanks I rode across the desert on a 500cc Harley-Davison Dispatch motorcycle, as a liaison officer.
In 2003 I finally sold my Royal Enfield Bullet and bought a BMW R1150 GS Adventure, which has since covered 25,000 miles across 24 countries. In 2005 Rebecca and I spent a month riding to Istanbul and back.
Six months later, over Christmas and New Year 2005, Rebecca and I crossed the Bay of Biscay by ferry, riding across Spain and into Morocco, struggling over the snow bound Atlas Mountains and dunes of the Sahara.
In the summer of 2006 we rode 5000 miles through the Baltic States, into the splendour of St. Petersburg and then back across Scandinavia.
